How to Unscrew your Life
At the beginning of every year, we often find ourselves rushing to get our life put together. We declutter our closets, panic study to meet deadlines, and hope willpower is enough to get us healthier, happier, and disciplined. However, every year the same things happen: the pressure gets to us and the motivation we had fades within our chaotic routines.
Instead of forcing changing, here is your guide to unscrewing your life in 2026:
1. Reflect and redirect:
You can never change if you don’t know where the issue began. Take a moment of your day to sit down with yourself and reflect on the patterns that occur in your everyday life. “Where did things go sideways? Why did you make that choice?” Only when you are able to understand yourself will you be able to redirect your life.
2. Ignore the noise:
Somehow everyone has something to say about the way we go with our lives. Our aunts become professional dietitians, the neighbor next door becomes a professional psychologist, and our grandparents’ become doctors. To say that these opinions don’t alter our perception would be a lie. We all care especially when these comments come from people that matter. So instead of taking it to heart, take it as a sign to push harder. Ignore the noise that’s telling you you’re failing and acknowledge the one that’s telling you to keep on going.
3. You before them;
No one is going to be there for you more than yourself. Friends come into our lives in different seasons , significant others can fall busy, and family, well they only know you to a certain extent. It is only you that will be consistently there for yourself. Put yourself at the center of your life. Your goals, boundaries, and health come first.
4. Possible and not perfect;
Waking up at 5 am and finishing everything before 10am has always been my dream routine. Even though it worked for a short period of time, I slowly fell back to old habits. If waking up before sunrise leaves you exhausted by 11 am, it’s not sustainable. It is not about copying people’s successful routine, but making one that successfully fits yours.
5. Go abroad.
If you can leave, just go, even if it was for a few weeks, just get on that plane. Nothing will ever make you grow and change other than spending time on your own in a foreign country. Distance gives you perspective and perspectives give you direction.
Unscrewing your life isn’t about becoming a new person, it's about choosing yourself when the world says otherwise. As 2026 begins, give yourself the chance to move at your own pace and build a life that is both sustainable and enjoyable.
