“Too Young”
“You know you are too young for this” is what most parents would say,
when you want to taste your first sip of cold beer to then give it to you anyway.
“You know you are too young” for that 16+ horror movie,
but you sneak past the guards determined to see it.
For these things where you are “too young”, being a sort of guidance through your life,
like being old enough to help your mom with her cooking and holding the knife.
There are lessons of “you’re too young” you’ll slowly outgrow:
scraped knees, small sips and secrets you never meant to know.
You’re too young to stay up late, too young to cross the street alone,
too young to think that one day you’d have to be strong all on your own.
Too young for these responsibilities, for loss, for goodbyes that’ll last,
funny how life decides to suddenly move too fast.
With a snap the life you knew stops to exist,
not caring if you’re too young with this cruel twist.
Now everything is different, the fear you never even thought comes closer every minute,
the nightmare you didn’t dare to have dreamt of came true and now you’re completely in it.
Time heals all wounds has never sounded this stupid before
and all the pictures with her are shattered in your room on the floor.
Rage or anger is the second stage in this process someone could call grief,
you call it living in a space without her in disbelief.
